Clever Line Design

Solving for X Since 2007
Cultural Lint-Trap (Self-Admitted)
Hi, I’m Matthew Dupuis—a designer, illustrator, and admittedly, a “cultural lint-trap.” I gather ideas from everywhere and put them to work across design, storytelling, and creative strategy.
17+ Years in Creative Industries
From in-house roles at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and the Stratford Festival to co-running Chick & Owl Design Co. with my sister for seven years, I’ve worked across the arts, publishing, non-profit, and performance sectors. Today, I run my own independent practice, drawn to projects that ask me to solve for X.
Fast When Needed,
Slow When It Counts
I’m well-versed in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and known for working fast and under pressure. But when the project allows for it, I love taking things slow—experimenting, gathering ideas, and presenting thoughtful concepts.
I’m most motivated when there’s a true back-and-forth and an unexpected idea lands just right.
Creativity That Never Clocks Out
I design t-shirts and have sold over 1,000 of them in my career. I collage with old print materials (especially vintage magazines and children’s books), draw paper towel books for my daughter’s school lunches (think snowman noir or donut gang sagas), and press flowers to be framed. I’ve also refinished discarded skateboards from yard sales and built Halloween costumes that made strangers stop and smile. My hobbies rotate by season, but the common thread is this: I love making things.
Always Designing
Sometimes I’m laying out a book. Sometimes I’m gluing googly eyes to a cardboard robot. Either way, I’m designing.
If that sounds like someone you’d like to work with—let’s talk.
